Privacy Awareness Week 2020

Be smart about privacy

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission will be celebrating Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) from 4 to 10 May 2020 because we are committed to protecting and respecting the personal information we collect, hold and share.

This year’s theme is Be smart about privacy and references the digital world we live in, including smart technologies (phones, watches, home-assist devices, TVs etc) and smart city initiatives that aim to deliver services more efficiently to communities.

Greater connection to the internet, use of technology and collection of data means more challenges for the protection of personal information. It reminds us that every day we need to make smart choices about how we collect, use, store and share personal information.

This is very important to us as we continue to deliver services, programs, infrastructure and support to the community. Additionally, it is timely to revisit our ICT access and use policies and to note that serious breaches can result in actions beyond the Information Privacy Act 2009 including disciplinary proceedings or criminal prosecutions under the Criminal Code.

PAW is an opportunity to think about the value of personal information and why it is worth protecting and promoting a culture that protects and respects individuals’ personal information.
